At Northumbrian Water we live water. Providing a wastewater treatment service that protects and enhances the environment, whilst also improving the quality of rivers and coastal waters for the benefit of the people and wildlife is invaluable. We have an exciting opportunity for you to join us and develop as a Wastewater Treatment Operative, one position in the Durham/Washington Area and one position in the Consett Area and play a key role in delivering this essential service.
Working as part of a team you will be responsible for operating and controlling a number of wastewater treatment works as well as pumping stations within the wider sewerage network. Within this role you will conduct tasks in all conditions to ensure these assets operate correctly and will undertake fault-finding investigations when issues are found. Full training will be provided to undertake the various technical aspects of this role.
To be successful, you'll need to demonstrate that you are:
IT and computer literate; able to analyse and interpret various pieces of information to identify process issues and optimise the assets performance.
A good communicator with good written and verbal skills and the ability to produce clear, effective and reliable reports
An effective team worker; working closely with others to deliver real business results
Practical and pragmatic; with a hands on approach to your work and solving problems to ensure this essential service is delivered on behalf of our customers to protect and enhance the environment.
Able to manage your time successfully, able to prioritise and manage a varied workload to meet your deadlines in a fast-moving, reactive environment
In Addition you will need:
A full driving licence; Due to the out of hours standby requirement of the role, you must hold a full driving licence and live within a 30 minute drive of Barkers Haugh or Consett Sewage Treatment Works.
A strong focus on health and safety. The role will involve both lone working and working as part of a team with minimal supervision in a wastewater environment. As such you will be responsible for protecting your safety and that of your colleagues and suppliers at all times.
Ideally to have studied to A level standard or alternatively be qualified to NVQ level 2 (5 GCSEs or equivalent).
