Scottish Water Services (Grampian) Ltd is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join our Operations Team in the Grampian area working as a Sludge Treatment Team Leader on a 2 year fixed term contract.

Each day we provide treatment to over 110,000 m3 of liquid waste before discharge to sea or river and actively protect the aquatic ecosystems of the region. About the Role


You will lead the highly skilled Operations Sludge Treatment Team at one of Scotland €™s largest treatment works, who safely operate our sludge treatment assets 24 hours per day, 365 days a year.


The Sludge Treatment Centre receives and treats sewage sludges from Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, treating them to the highest global standards and recycling to agriculture.  Your role is essential to comply with industry best practise and government regulations.


Your primary responsibility is to drive Health, Safety and Wellbeing standards within your team of six Technicians and across the wider site, ensuring that all activities are carried out to the highest standards and all staff, contractors and visitors stay safe and well.


You will use your skills to lead planned and reactive tasks within timescale, quality and cost parameters, leading initiatives to improve efficiencies and reduce risks on site.


Our impact on our neighbours is of paramount importance to us, and you will be expected to manage activities and maintain housekeeping standards so that they benefit our stakeholders.

This role commands annual operating expenditure of  £1M, which you will control and ensure that the Business Plan that you set each year is delivered.

The ideal candidate will identify ways to improve value and service as part of their day to day role. You will build and maintain relationships with regulators, customers, colleagues, suppliers and sub-contractors.

Your high drive, energy, determination and accountability will set you apart from other applicants.


This role is primarily based at our site in Nigg, Aberdeen, although on occasion may require you to travel to other sites in Scotland where you will manage and prioritise your own workload.


Essential Skills, Knowledge & Experience Required


You will be working with process industry equipment, and it is essential that you have a background in Operational or Maintenance activities in Water, Wastewater or Process environments.  Sludge treatment experience in thermal hydrolysis, anaerobic digestion and combined heat and power systems is desirable.


The role demands relentless drive, energy and determination to deliver sustainable out-performance that rigorously achieves our vision to be clearly the best.


You will have experience of leading and embedding change, ability to influence and drive the right culture and behaviours.


Robust financial management and commercial awareness skills are needed to form the foundation of all business decisions.


Incident management experience is needed in order to minimise environmental and customer impact and restore services as quickly and effectively as possible.


You will have a proven history of driving Operational improvements to improve quality, efficiencies and reduce costs through improved ways of working.  You will achieve this through clearly setting and communicating your expectations, inspiring others to succeed and openly celebrating success.


Previous experience of being persuasive and influential in managing and leading a team is highly desirable, with a proven track record of driving sustainable performance against challenging business targets.
