The Role
The main purpose of the role is to co-ordinate the management of obtaining all necessary consents. In turn this allows the efficient delivery of new Generation projects. In this role you'll lead a team of consent managers across a range of project opportunities ensuring that all the necessary rights to deliver the project options are in place.
Your responsibilities as Lead Consents Manager will include:
- Carrying out all project development work safely across the Projects, including application of SSE safety family and working with others to develop new initiatives to improve health, safety and the environment on all working environments.
- Delivery of all necessary planning consents to support project recommendations up to Gate 3 as well as providing required support to the Delivery team during the construction period.
- Manage all resources, processes, systems and controls on projects and accurately report on projects.
- Support the Head of Consenting to manage resources available and enable efficient progress on the project portfolio with a focus on where the best value is achieved.
- Maintain effective communication with all development projects, senior management, engineering, legal, procurement and delivery teams to ensure there is consistency in the way we develop projects across the portfolio.
- You'll also ensure that senior management have enough visibility of the portfolio to maintain confidence in project delivery and resolution of issues.
- Build excellent relationships with key external stakeholders including statutory consultees and key local community leaders.
Importantly you'll also coordinate with and provide support to the Business Development team on all pre-gate 1 projects in order to align and input on key risks. You'll work closely with the Delivery team to ensure that projects approaching stage Gate 3 have all necessary permissions and consent conditions discharged to enable the delivery team to construct the project. Furthermore, you'll also work closely with the Generation teams required to operate the project over its lifetime and decommissioning of the project.
Your Skills & Experience
The successful candidate for this role will ideally have a good understanding of project management and the delivery of major projects such as project definition and set up, planning, cost, risk, quality and commercial management. You'll also have a reasonable understanding and experience of financial planning for capital projects.
Furthermore, you'll have knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and practices; substantial knowledge of planning requirements for major capital projects; knowledge of commercial drivers for major infrastructure projects; and ideally knowledge of SSE LCP Governance systems and procedures.
You'll have excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of seniority both internally and externally. You'll represent SSE externally and you'll inspire your team by encouraging teamwork, diversity and inclusion.
