To collate and analyse data from various sources to better understand and quantify water use from our water supply system, and use this to support the development and delivery of the company’s plans to manage the balance between water supply and demand. A key part of this will be the analyse of data relating to customer usage and water system leakage, and the use of this information to help the company understand and manage current performance, as well as helping to shape and influence its longer term plans.
What makes this role unique?
This role will allow the successful person to join a highly motivated and well established team within Thames Water working in the essential area of analysing and reporting customer water usag e, leakage and security of supply. As leakage targets are becoming more challenging, so the company needs to better understand where and how water is being used, which in turn will allow more accurate understanding and reporting of leakage. Thames is currently installing large numbers of smart meters that provide lots more data on property use, but with 2 million properties still unmeasured, advanced techniques and other data sources are needed to provide the insight needed to determine water use for these customers. In this role you will work with a wide variety of data and people from many parts of the business including developer services, water networks, metering (wholesale and retail), customer services, billing, strategic planning and regulatory reporting to capture, analysis and report consumption and water use.
What will this role involve?
Ensuring the integrity an d robustness of demand data, including that used in the water balance, water use analysis and leakage.
Leading the management of the Domestic Water Use Study (DWUS) panel and the assessment of customer water use.
Being responsible for running the annual population survey for DWUS properties.
Being the central contact for customer contacts regarding the DWUS panel, addressing customer queries or concerns, resolving customer supply pipe leakage and plumbing losses, identifying when customers move out and into DWUS properties, and encouraging the new customers to be part of the panel.
Providing cross company liaison with primary data providers.
Proactively managing the collation and production of demand and leakage data and reports for a variety of audiences including Thames Water senior management and our regulators.
Providing support to the Senior Planners in the development and coordination of options and least cost plans used in the management of security of supply, demand, leakage and network management.
Providing analysis of performance against plan and associated performance indicators, and support the generation of corrective actions to ensure targets are achieved at minimum cost.
Support the development of new demand studies including, bulk metering of flats and HMOs for use within DWUS, which includes, for example, mining Census data.
What are we looking for?
To be successful in this role you will have an excellent ability to analyse data and have a passion for working with and collating numbers. You will have a good knowledge of metering, telemetry, and ability to identify patterns and anomalies in flow profiles. Excellent written and oral communication skills and attention to detail are of great importance in this role. Your ability to engage with internal and external stakeholders at all levels as well as being able to challenge appropriately are paramount to succeeding in this position. Ideally you will be educated to degree level in a relevant discipline and/or have a proven knowledge of the business area. An advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is essential, whilst knowledge of CIS, SAP, GIS and Business Objects is desirable. High attention to detail, the ability to prioritise workload and deliver to tight timescales are all essential competencies for this role.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role wi ll be based at our site in Clearwater Court, Reading. The salary is up to £35,000 depending on your experience.
