What is the purpose of the role?

Thames Water carries out 15,000 new water connections every year and deals with more than 45,000 requests to connect to a public sewer. In addition, over 90kms of new water main is installed each year just to meet the increasing demand for water from new developments. Handling the applications, designs, pricing and payment associated with this across a complex and heavily regulated business is all managed by our Developer Services Team and we are now seeking a proven self-starter and credible individual to lead our engagement in relation to strategic developments within our area. You will be expected to enhance the relationship with key organisations such as development corporations, government organisations and local authorities to develop a clear vision of the growth profile and help devise a holistic solution to deal with it. Acting as a ke y point of contact, you will help support the promotion of investment ahead of need, collaborative working and a continued assessment of opportunities for potential new services, therefore growing the Developer Services business.

What makes this role unique?

This is an integral role which requires an individual who is comfortable to drive a change agenda, shape and develop the direction of the role and you will gain significant exposure to a range of internal and external stakeholders. You will be given the accountability to gain insight and intelligence to fully understand the impact of future development needs on our networks. Developer Services sits within the Water Networks department but engages with a vast array of other departments due to the unique nature of this division. In addition, it works closely with the Infrastructure Alliance which is a partnership betwe en Thames Water, Kier, Clancy Docwra, Morrison and Murphy. This is an excellent and exciting opportunity to join this team and help deliver the insight to help understand growth in our supply area whilst helping shape our investment strategy.

What will this role involve?

Key accountabilites will include:

Provide leadership, expert advice and guidance within Developer Services to influence positive outcomes.

Act as a key point of contact for Strategic Development Areas to ensure they receive the necessary focus.

Ensure we have a clear and consistent strategy for dealing with these areas whilst ensuring all associated relationships are managed effectively.

Build and maintain exte rnal relationships with key organisations. Contribute to the wider growth strategy and information gathering activities.

Actively develop opportunities to engage in dialogue with developers, regulators and local authorities to build Thames Water’s visibility and open up the channels for cooperation.

Support in setting priorities and developing a long term stakeholder engagement strategy to enable the achievement of business objectives.

What are we looking for?

To be considered, you must be a credible leader with previous stakeholder engagement experience, ideally within a heavily regulated environment. You will have an understanding of the building / development industry and ideally experience within the Water Industry in order to hit the ground running. You must be comfortable operating at all levels of an organisation and you will have a proven background of driving performance and change within a complex business. You will be commercially minded with strong influencing capabilities, with a passion for driving results beyond expectation and will have a real focus on metrics and future development and business forecasting.

Thames Water information and salary details

This role is offering a salary of circa  £40,000 depending on skills and experience and will be based from our head office in Reading, however regular travel across the Thames Valley and London region will be required.
