To implement, maintain and improve the calm system operation ethic within a geographical area delivering top class water quality and customer service while reducing leakage and energy. The System Operations Regional Manager will mitigate system risks to stop escalation to events and customer impact. Other aspects of the role are to optimise existing operating strategies and look for new opportunities including system reconfiguration, work closely with the leakage team and numerous other internal stakeholders, take the lead in managing technical issues during unplanned emergency events and supporting business change initiatives. The role will also involve leading the risk review process for emerging hydraulic system risks within the region, devising smart contingency plans to mitigate the risk in the short term, while driving business cases for investment to be secured.

You will be managing a highly technically skilled team to deliver optimal use of above and below ground assets to achieve efficient system operation and meet business targets for water quality, customer, leakage and energy. It is essential that the role facilitates close liaison with the Network, Production, Capital Delivery and Digital teams to accomplishing maximum performance against these metrics. The System Operations Regional Manager will manage and develop strategies and processes for overall calm system operation within a region and be responsible for optimising system operation and managing system risk to deliver efficient system performance achieving key operational and regulatory targets. They will also be accountable for providing support to all emergency incidents across the company and be responsible for the co-ordination of the water outage planning process including mitigating risks through the PTW process.
What will this role involve?
Improve visibility of all system data to enable system monitoring and investigate/resolve identified issues and develop solutions to individual problems or emerging risks.
Deliver business cases to mitigate known and emerging system risks and liaise with SPI to secure funding Performance manage the regional team to deliver system for calm operation and maintain dashboards for visibility Technical support to develop capability across the whole of System Operations.
Deliver and maintain system operation training material and coach the Delivery team to maintain high and consistent standard of calm system operation 24/7.
Be the technical system operations lead on unplanned emergency events with a view to mitigating against adverse effects to the customer, interruptions to supply, water quality, brand image.
Manage the team to formulate operating strategies to deliver the water quality, Customer, Leakage and Energy strategies while maintaining a calm operation of the system.
Deliver a capability to evaluate and analyse operational information, understanding data integrity difficulties, to resolve basic problems.
Deliver the production and maintenance of line schematics of water pressure zones and the hydraulic systems, to help management and investigation of issues.
Assess system capacity for growth and approve all new connection or development requests coming from the customer.
What are we looking for?
The successful candidate will be degree educated graduate in a suitable technical discipline like Engineering, industry experience and an in-depth knowledge of hydraulic principles. It would be beneficial if the candidate was conversant with Thames Water’s corporate systems. The candidate will have a thorough understanding of the water industry regulatory measures relating to customer satisfaction, leakage, water quality, customer low pressures and interruptions to supply, also prior experience concerning industry best practice in this arena. The candidate will be able to demonstrate this when risk assessing activities being carried out on a hydraulic system level. It is essential that the candidate possesses good analytical, problem solving, negotiating skills and extreme willingness to learn and work hard to drive their career within Thames W ater. Full driving licence and own transport is desirable, due to required attendance at meetings spread across various offices.
Thames Water information and salary details
There are 3 positions based across London and the Thames Valley. We are offering a salary of between £55,000 – £65,000 depending on skills and experience. On top of our competitive salary package, you will also receive a competitive bonus, car allowance, private healthcare and an industry leading pension scheme. We also offer 2 paid volunteering days per year.
