Job Purpose:

 

The electricity connections market principally involves the connection and/or diversion of electrical assets at our customer €™s request, in order to provide them with their required electricity supply at their desired location. The area we serve covers more than 29,000 square kilometres from The Wash in the East to the River Arun on the South Coast and we make circa 58,000 connections per year.

This chargeable work is quoted using Compatible Units (CUs) which are the backbone of our end-to-end process. These units are used for recurring works tasks and contain a range of information that forms the direct cost base of the quotations provided by our designers, through to the operational and contractual information required to deliver the work and record the new assets on our network.  

The CUs contain information used for and pertinent to:

 

    • Quotation price calculation and outputs to the customer €™s connection offer
    • Operational scheduling and competency specification for resources
    • Logistics material ordering and pipeline forecasts
    • Streetworks co-ordination
    • Work statuses of engineers in the field
    • Electronic timesheets and bookings
    • Recording of installed assets
    • Payment of contractor resources
    • Cost capture and project budgeting
    • Customer work status reporting
    • Commercial and regulatory reporting

 

You will play a high profile and crucial role in maintaining and calculating these units as well as other commercial support and analysis for the business.

The role will therefore require liaison with many internal parties within the company to ensure that our CU solution continues to fulfil all of these requirements and those proposed in the future.

 Principal Responsibilities:

 

  • Maintenance of the CU library, including creation of new CUs, amendments to existing and retirement of obsolete CUs, adhering to the CU Governance process.

 

  • To undertake regular reviews of current engineering policy and underlying cost assumptions built into Connections IT Systems and administrate these systems in consultation with all appropriate stakeholders.
     
  • Analyse and report changing trends in business cost data and ensure that appropriate members of the Connections team are briefed on significant developments.
     
  • Own and maintain various bespoke spreadsheets including for our business continuity planning, project man hours and quotation variation calculators.
     
  • To liaise with other departments such as Logistics, Procurement and Finance to ensure that all standard items of plant, equipment, materials and contractor costs are updated in a consistent and timely manner.
     
  • Monitoring of the team €™s shared mailbox and being the principal responder to business queries such as refund and bespoke price calculations, price breakdowns and customer queries that require the provision of CU related data.
     
  • To assist with populating and maintaining information pertaining to mandatory regulatory documents and submissions including pricing data for our Common Connection Charging Methodology Statement and pricing breakdowns for our regulatory returns and market share reports.
     
  • To assists with maintaining the quotation systems and other underlying data, charges and templates and any required commercial support to designers using these systems.
     
  • To work collaboratively with a wider team of analysts in Finance as part of the company wider CU team in which we collectively manage the CU library for all Connections and non-Connections activities.
     
  • To become a point of reference for CUs and to deputise for the Senior Pricing Policy Analyst when required including at CU working groups and directorate meetings.

Nature and Scope:

 

  • The post holder will work as part of a small team providing support on all cost and pricing related matters within Connections. In support of this aim the Data Analyst will assist with the introduction of new ideas and practices into the directorate in a well-coordinated and controlled manner.
     
  • The post holder will work closely with colleagues in all areas of the Connections business, Procurement & Logistics teams and will be expected to quickly gain an understanding of the cost models used within UK Power Networks and contribute ideas that support the company vision to consistently be the best performing Distribution Network Operator (DNO), focused on outstanding performance within a set of values.

Please note that this role will occasionally require visits to other locations within the company €™s operational footprint.

 

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

 

As a Data Analyst, the job holder must be able to demonstrate the following core competencies:

 

  • The person carrying out this role should ideally have previous experience as an analyst or systems administrator working in a commercially focussed technical environment preferably in either a commercial, QS, engineering, estimating, procurement or contract management or similar discipline or be a graduate in a suitable subject that is keen to learn new skills.
     
  • The Data Analyst must possess excellent IT skills especially in MS Excel and ideally in SAP although training will be provided where required.
     
  • Can demonstrate a desire to achieve personal growth and will be supportive of colleagues, but will have the fortitude to constructively challenge the status quo and not be afraid to put forward creative solutions.
     
  • You should be able to demonstrate that you are practical and results oriented by virtue of your actions and are well organised and methodical in order to help others to deliver tasks in a complex fast-moving environment of business change.
     
  • A logical thinker with good communication skills, a person who can lead by example and demonstrate initiative whilst working compliantly within the rules.
     
  • Has the ability to understand complex situations from many perspectives, and to produce well-reasoned practical proposals and solutions.
     
  • Be able to demonstrate impeccable ethical and moral behaviour, coupled with unquestionable integrity and character and an ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
