Job Purpose

To provide Mechanical, Electrical and Gas Fleet maintenance and technical support to all operational teams that use Fleet assets to ensure equipment is maintained compliantly, safely and efficiently in order that we may deliver the best quality water and wastewater service to our customers.

Job Accountabilities

  • Ensure that all fleet compliance obligations are met, being a permanent Health, Safety and Well being focal lead
  • Perform weekly Health and Safety inspections and takes appropriate action to minimise Health and Safety risk
  • Liaise with the insurance inspector, perform remedial actions and update the Crimson system
  • Has permanent accountability for the Crimson system and resolving non-conformities highlighted by Zurich
  • To carry out fleet maintenance on a range of assets including, HGV, trailers, plant equipment
  • Ensure that all service KPIs are achieved by carrying out effective maintenance on a range of assets
  • Ensure that an optimum inventory is kept by liaising with suppliers and the wider Fleet team
  • Oversee mechanics to ensure a safe working environment and is a mentor to apprentices
  • Manage the workshop operation for the periods when the Workshop Controller is away
  • Provide technical support and diagnostic expertise to ensure accurate and safe maintenance is completed
  • Assist the Workshop Controller in organising and optimising the schedule of work
  • Lead customer service improvements and share best practice

Knowledge and Skills

  • NVQ level 3 HGV Repair and Maintenance certificate
  • IRTEC vehicle inspection technician
  • IRTEC Master Technician
  • Has or willing to obtain a Certificate in Professional Competence In Road Haulage (CPC)
  • Relevant alternative power maintenance certificate, such as EV
  • C+E driving licence (Class1)
  • Expert in vehicle electrics and computer fault diagnostic
  • A multi-skilled mechanic who is able to maintain and repair alternatively powered assets such as electric and gas vehicle
  • Ability to work in a team but also alone, be resilient, self-motivated, with strong problem solving skills and possess the required technical competence
  • Diagnostic, organisational, planning, communication and computer skills
  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel
  • Significant experience in a transport maintenance environment with a thorough understanding of the technical requirements of running a workshop and experienced with HGV's, Tankers, Light Vans and Plant
  • Understanding of the Operator's Licence and the regulatory framework within which the team operates

  • As this is a back shift position it will be subject to a 10% enhancement, there will be no standby
